Collection of pictures #1

This is a picture of my arm and is an example of the word endotherm. This is because my arm like the rest of my body maintains/stays at a certain temperature. This is also an example of fermentation. The muscle in my arm can use lactic acid fermentation, this brings about many other things.

As mammals we have the ability to maintain an average body temperature and this is attributed to we being endothermic. Our body temperature is not regulated by our surrounds like reptiles. The purpose of this would be to keep our bodies from becoming too cold or too hot which out damage our organs or potentially kill us.

Fermentation is a process used by both our bodies and nature. In our bodies it is used to break things down into acids that can be used by our body. For example how lactic acid fermentation is how out body turns different types of sugars into cellular energy which can then be used by our bodies. In the outside world things like hops and other grain are fermented to produce alcohol.

This picture is an example of fleshy fruit with a seed. The apple and the cherry are both fleshy fruit that contain seeds.

This is an example of a modified leaf of a plant. This is so because creatures had eaten through the leaf so it is no longer in its original state. This is also an example of a deciduous leaf because the leaf was on the ground, it had fallen off the branch it was attached to.

Nature process and animals can cause leaves to become and deciduous. For example if a strong wind comes through and blows a leaf off a tree branch it is no longer connected to the branch.

Many animals and insects can cause a leaf to be modified. For example if a herbivorous animal or insect begins to eat the leaf and eats holes through it, it has been modified from its original state.

This is an example of a female pine cone.

Female pine cones generally have a longer life span and are usually bigger than male pine cones.
The male pine cones produce pollen and are generally more conspicuous. Female pine cones can also be know as megastrobilus, seed cone, or ovulate cone. They contain ovules which when pollinated become seeds.

This is an example of a herbaceous stem.

Herbaceous stems tend to serve the same purpose to a plant as it leaves do. With this type of stem water intake for a place is maximized. These stems are usually soft and are easily damaged if managed poorly.

This is an example of pollen because flowers were pollinated in order to grow.

Pollen is powder which consists of microgametophytes, which produce the sperm gametes of seed plants. Pollen is covered by a hardened coat which is used to protect the sperm inside. Pollen can be moved by many things including animals and nature processes such as winds. Bees are a major "mover" of pollen. Once the pollen gets to the counterpart female ovule the ovule is then fertilized.

This is an example of a woody stem.

This is the other type of structural tissue that is used by plants. This type of stem can generally make a plant more sturdy but can cut back on the water intake of the plant. This is generally know as bark. Plants with woody stems are known to have thicker roots.

This is an example of the thorns of a plant.

Thorns are a structure on plants that are generally used to protect the plant from herbivores. Thorns are modified branches of stems. Some thorns unlike the ones in this picture are strong enough to pierce the skin of animals.
